Summer School Teaching Opportunities

Today's blog has information in regards to our Southeast Polk "RAM Camp', which will be held this summer. While this camp is designed for elementary students, there are teaching opportunities for all PK-12 teachers, so please review carefully if you are interested.

Southeast Polk RAM Camp

This summer, the Southeast Polk Community School District is pleased to offer a learning opportunity for some elementary students who are entering grades 1-6 during the 2021-22 school year. This has been a unique year for all of us, and summer school is one way to support our students academic success.  We would like to invite your child to “RAM Camp” a program that will focus on literacy and math with the goal of improving these skills over the summer

RAM Camp will be held at designated Southeast Polk elementary school sites for four weeks, starting July 12th. The program will run Monday-Friday from 8:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The last day of the program will be Friday, August 6th. There are no fees for this learning opportunity, and transportation will be provided at your request.  In addition, breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be provided for all students. The summer school sites are listed below:

  • Centennial Elementary (Altoona and Centennial students)

  • Clay Elementary (Clay and Four Mile students)

  • Mitchellville Elementary (Mitchellville and Runnells students)

  • Willowbrook Elementary (Delaware and Willowbrook students)

The morning sessions will focus on academics, and grade level math and literacy skills will be reinforced. During the afternoon, students will participate in multiple sessions for learning and fun including music, art, games, STEM and science activities, and social-emotional learning.  RAM Camp will be taught by certified teachers and we are also collaborating with our community partners, including Facebook, the Science Center, and Kid’s Cafe.

Interested in Teaching Summer School??

We recognize the emotional toll the pandemic has caused for everyone. Southeast Polk educators have been tireless this year in providing learning opportunities while continuing to care for our students in a very challenging time. We are creating some options for teaching summer school that will allow teachers to teach if they choose, but will also provide time for well deserved rest and relaxation.

The RAM Camp will have 2 shifts--an AM academic shift (Math and ELA) and a PM Camp/Club shift. The AM shift is from 8:00-12:00 and the PM shift is from 12:00-4:00.

  • Teachers may apply to teach either shift 1 or shift 2, or both.
To teach shift 1, an elementary degree is required.  To teach shift 2, a teaching degree is required.
Elementary teachers are eligible to teach either shift 1 or 2.
Any teacher (PK-12) is eligible to teach shift 2.
  • Teachers may choose to apply with a partner.  The team will plan and collaborate together, and each teacher will teach 10 of the 20 days.
  • Model Teachers and Instructional Coaches may use summer school teaching towards their additional contract days.
  • Each teacher hired to teach summer school will be paid for up to 8 hours of planning prior to July 12th.
