As we approach the first trimester grading period, remote teachers and teachers at the building will have a chance to collaborate and discuss grades for students who have been in both pathways for this reporting period. Meetings will be held virtually for teachers from Centennial, Delaware, Runnells, and Willowbrook on October 28th, and Altoona, Clay, Four Mile, and Mitchellville on November 4th. Each building team has been scheduled individually, and you may join the Zoom link at the time for your grade level. Below is the schedule for tomorrow, October 28th.

Professional Learning Follow Up
We met with the Professional Development Steering Committee this week, and discussed the value of having time to collaborate and plan on Wednesdays this year. We will continue to support teams with collaboration as well as provide learning opportunities as they meet your needs. The committee responded to the survey below. You are invited to add your ideas as well in the blog comments.
As a follow up to our pd last Friday, below is information on the sessions that were provided. If you did not get the chance to attend sessions you were interested in, you may participate 'on-demand' as it works for you and your collaboration team.

Newsela Updates
Last year we had a chance to pilot Newsela at certain grade levels with specific content areas. Based on feedback and usage, we have expanded this to include the full suite of Newsela resources for all grade levels. This is a tool that could be especially useful now as it can help bridge learning at home and learning at school.
All teachers should be able to access Newsela by signing in through Google with your Southeast Polk credentials. The two documents below include basic overview information, including integration information for Google Classroom (elementary) and Canvas (secondary).
Newsela-Getting Started: Elementary
Newsela-Getting Started: Secondary
What's New?
In the English Language Arts sections, there are new opportunities for integration, including alignment to published materials. There is an alignment to ReadyGen, so grades 3-5 will have access to text sets that align to the modules and books being read.
What Else is Available?
- Newsela is focused on current events, so there are articles that are continually updated that support the study of the upcoming elections.
- There are articles to support multiple content areas, including ELA, Social Studies, and Science.
- The Social Studies units are organized by inquiry studies to align with both the C3 framework and DBQ's.
- Under the tab 'Your Content' there are Social-Emotional Learning collections for both elementary and secondary. These units include:
- Relationships, routines, and resilience
- Self-Awareness
- Self-Management
- Social Awareness
- Relationship-Building
- Responsible Decision-Making
